Duke Center on Risk

The Duke Center on Risk studies the assessment, perception, management, and communication of risks and policy responses.  In connection with the Duke Space Initiative, the Duke Center on Risk co-sponsored the first Duke Space Symposium in April 2025, and is pursuing research, education, publications, and public engagement on an array of space risks and responses, including: solar radiation modification (SRM) to address global climate change; planetary defense against asteroids; planetary protection against biological contamination; management of orbital space debris; international conflict in space; space weather; and other space risks.  Recent publications include  “Interplanetary Risk Regulation” (2025) (with a related story in the Duke Law news);  “Multi-Risk Governance of SRM” (2025);  and “Practical Paths to Risk-Risk Analysis of SRM” (2025).
